to cook, to eat, to live,

for taste, for joy, for life.

While the olive trees,

This is a people’s history.

Stories of children, families, communities,

Of relationality,

Of songs,

Of recipes,

Embedded in the plant beings

Of those lands,

And of those waters.

And there, they will always be.

-In memory of Bilal Saleh. He was harvesting olives.
